DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The WIU women's volleyball team started things off with a bang in The Sun Conference Tournament, defeating Northwood in four sets to advance to the semi-final game against the #2 seeded SCAD. By the end of the night, SCAD defeated the Lady Warriors in four sets, ending the season for WIU with an overall record of 25-9.
The Lady Warriors defeated # 6 seed Northwood in four sets (25-15, 21-25, 25-15, 25-23). 2009 All-Conference players Kristina Reeves, Kerri Romaniszyn, and Julianne Dougherty guided their team into the semi-final match, all with 11 kills each. Dougherty collected 10 digs during the game, along with five blocks. Romaniszyn led WIU with three services aces and four blocks, while blocking leader Reeves tallied up nine blocks (three solo and six assisted). Stephanie Krull's defense of 16 digs was key to the Warriors advancing, along with Trisha Belcher's 21 assists.
WIU took a tough loss in the semi-finals, as they were defeated by SCAD in four sets (18-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-25). Dougherty and Romaniszyn were the key leaders for WIU, with Romaniszyn having a hitting percentage of 0.240 and Dougherty with 11 digs and three blocks. Krull and Belcher were the leaders on defense, having 13 digs a piece and Belcher tallying 33 assists.
