Warrior Volleyball Split Conference Weekend

The Lady Warrior women's volleyball team was on the road this past weekend as they took on Edward Waters College and Savannah College of Art and Design.  WIU split their conference weekend, dominating against EWC, but taking a tough loss against SCAD.

Webber International defeated the Tigers of Edward Waters in three sets (25-11, 25-15, 25-7) on Thursday, October 22nd.  Seniors Kristina Reeves and Kerri Romaniszyn led the Warriors to victory, with Reeves collecting 11 kills and five blocks and Romaniszyn with 10 kills and three blocks.  Trisha Belcher tallied up 21 assists and Taylor Smith led the defense with 17 digs.

After the Edward Waters game, WIU rode on up to Savannah, Georgia to take on SCAD, who currently sits second in The Sun Conference volleyball standings.  This was a hard fought match between both teams, with SCAD taking the first two sets, then WIU taking the next two.  But SCAD were the victorious ones, defeating WIU in the fifth set (16-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-17, 9-25).  Julianne Dougherty collected 17 kills against the Bees, while Romaniszyn had 12.  Dougherty also led the team with five blocks and Belcher tallied up 30 assists.

Romaniszyn led the team on the weekend in kills, having a total of 32.  Belcher had 51 assists on the weekend, while Reeves had nine blocks.

WIU's overall record is now 20-6 and 9-4 in The Sun Conference.  Their next match will Friday, October 30th, as the Lady Warriors will travel down to Naples, Florida to take on conference opponent Ave Maria.  Game time will be 7:00 pm.
