WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The ninth ranked men's soccer team fell to No. 16 SCAD in the semi final of the Region XIV Tournament held on the campus of Northwood University.
The Warriors started very well and two goals within the space of eight minutes gave them a comfotable lead. The first goal was very well crafted when newly crowned FSC and Region XIV Player of the Year, #Bjorn Asbjornsson# escaped the very physical marking to sprint through to the Bees' box. #David Wahlberg# (All-Region and first team All-Conference) continued his supporting run and when Absjornsson squared the ball he made no mistake to put the Warriors one-nil up.
The second goal came only eight minutes later and this time it was another first-team All-Conference and All-Region player who scored. #Jon Hermannsson# broke thorugh the Bee's backline and drew the 'keeper out to slot it in at the far post. The scored remained two-nil at half time.
The Bees came out with more intensity in the second half however the Warriors matched this and could have had the game tied up with some decent chances. It was SCAD who was in the ascendancy and they pulled a goal back from the penalty spot. The ground went silent as nobody could quite believe that the referee pointed to the spot for a supposed foul. SCAD converted to pull a goal back.
SCAD managed to score two more within the next nine minutes to put the nail in the Warriors' coffin.Â
"I look at the game and wonder how we managed to lose. I am totally amazed at some of the decisions today which ruined what could have been a great match-up. However that is soccer and we know we have to bounce back and refocus for the biggest tournament in college soccer," bemoaned John Haworth.
