Lindsey Martin, a native of Ventura, California, grew up as a duel sport athlete, playing both basketball and volleyball. Forced to choose between the demanding schedules of two sports, Martin’s true passion was volleyball. After high school, Martin received a full scholarship to Division 1, California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo. After receiving conference honors and helping lead her team to the first round of the NCAA playoffs in 2002, Martin sustained a career ending back injury. While detrimental to her colligate playing career, Martin’s injury opened the door for the opportunity to begin a coaching career while finishing out her scholarship at Cal Poly. Initially as the student assistant, and eventually as the graduate assistant, Martin was able to garner a Division I coaching experience and obtain her Bachelors in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology and Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Cal Poly, SLO.
After graduating in 2007, Martin took a job as a varsity volleyball coach/teacher/athletic director at a Christian school in Camarillo, CA. After winning two conference championships and being named Omega Conference Coach of the Year, Martin moved on to become the women’s and men’s assistant coach at Moorpark Community College in Moorpark, CA. While at Moorpark C.C., Martin was a part of back to back conference championship teams on the women’s side, and helped re-build the men’s team after a state championship.
In 2011, Martin moved to Colorado to be the first assistant at NCAA Division II School, Colorado Christian University. After a very successful season at CCU, she took a job assisting at Metropolitan State University of Denver (Metro State), another Division II school. During her two seasons at Metro State, the Roadrunners maintained a nationally ranked status in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top
25 Poll, reaching as high as #10 in 2012. During her time at Metro State, Martin completed her second Master’s degree in Kinesiology from Azusa Pacific University.
After a brief stint as a full time club coach and recruiting coordinator for Front Range Volleyball Club, Martin took the helm in 2015 as head coach at Johnson and Wales University in Denver, Colorado. During her two seasons as head coach, Martin received back to back berths to the conference tournament, had multiple athletes named to AVCA Regional Teams, as well as multiple AVCA All-Americans.
Coach Martin resides in Babson Park, Florida, with her husband Will, her dog Fender and cat Wayne.
