Coach Jessica Gehrke-Hauptmann begins her fifth year as the Head Women's Beach Volleyball Coach at Webber International University during the 2022 season. She was announced as the Warriors' new head coach in January 2019.
In 2021, Coach Gehrke-Hauptmann's Warriors captured the inaugural Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Regular-Season Championship. Webber, which finished the season 9-5 overall, was also 4-1 in TSC matches during the regular season and earned the No. 1 seed for the first ever TSC Beach Volleyball Tournament. The duo of Hannah Tannone and Penny Gwynn was named the TSC Pair of the Year while Coach Gehrke-Hauptmann was named TSC Coach of the Year. At the American Volleyball Coaches' Association Small College Beach National Championship, the No. 4-seeded Warriors went 2-0 during Pool Play before finishing in third place overall.
During Coach Gehrke-Hauptmann's first year leading the Warriors in 2019, Webber finished in fourth place at the American Volleyball Coaches' Association Small College Beach National Championship after winning the Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Invitational on their home beach volleyball courts. Additionally during Gehrke-Hauptmann's first season at Webber, Mekenzie Breuklander and Madelyn Glouner were named The Sun Conference Pair of the Year.
Coach Gehrke-Hauptmann came to Webber from Beverly Hills, California, where she was the head coach of the West Side Warriors Indoor Volleyball Club in Los Angeles, California, coaching girls’ junior teams (12U, 14U and 16U).
Previously in her career, Coach Gehrke-Hauptmann worked for USA Volleyball in Los Angeles in 2018 as a Beach High Performance Coordinator. In July of 2018, she served as the USA Volleyball Beach HP Junior Beach National Team Coordinator in Nanjing, China, where she was the official USA Beach Volleyball U19 Team delegate at the FIVB U19 World Championships.
In 2014, Gehrke-Hauptmann was a member of the USA High Performance U26 Beach Volleyball team, located in Hermosa Beach, California.
Gehrke-Hauptmann, who graduated from West High School in Iowa City, Iowa, in 2010, also has roots in Florida after earning her Bachelor of Science degree in sports and fitness from Florida International University in Miami, Florida, in 2014.
Gehrke-Hauptmann was selected to the State of Iowa High School Volleyball Hall of Fame Class in 2017. She earned the Iowa City West High School Most Inspirational Student Award in 2010 and was named Iowa 4A State Volleyball Tournament MVP in 2009. She was an Iowa Elite All-State Volleyball Player in both 2008 and 2009; and additionally in track & field, Gehrke-Hauptmann holds 12 individual Iowa High School Track & Field State Champion titles.
At FIU, Gehrke-Hauptmann was a scholarship athlete on three NCAA Division-I teams (indoor volleyball, beach volleyball and track & field). A sand volleyball team co-captain in 2013 and 2014 and a Sunbelt Conference all-academic award winner during each of her four years, Gehrke-Hauptmann was also recognized with the FIU Sports Behavior Award in 2014 and with the Collegiate “Baller” Scholar Award in 2013.
During her final semester at FIU, Gehrke-Hauptmann worked at Sun Conference rival St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida, where she led strength and conditioning training sessions for the Bobcats’ volleyball, basketball, soccer, and softball teams.
Also during her time at FIU, Gehrke-Hauptmann met her husband, Caylin Hauptmann.
