BABSON PARK, FL - The men's and women's track and field teams travelled to Embry Riddle University for the ERAU Indoor Outdoor Challenge and came away with a “B” standard national qualifier. The Warriors competed against several conference schools including: Embry Riddle, Florida Memorial, and Warner, USCB, along with division 1 University of Florida Gulf Coast and University of North Florida, as well as unattached and high school track clubs.
On the men side, Senior
Eric Kieffer opened his first 600 meter race of the year in qualifying fashion. Kieffer ran a personal best time of 1:22.21 for a 6
th place overall finish. The jumping tandem of sophomore
Johnathan Hatcher (6
th 60 meters 7.03) and Mike Brun (6
th HJ 1.77m) finished first and second respectfully in the Long Jump. Johnathan a newcomer to the Warrior family, leaped 6.91 meters (22' 6”) to capture the top spot while teammate Brun sprung to the second spot with a distance of 6.73 meters (22' 1”). Both are just shy of the national qualifying marks. Junior Jeffrey Surran ran a 6
th place time of 2:42.61, to break the school record in the 1000 meter run. The previous mark of 2:43.97 was held by Gabriel Ramos in 2010.
The women had a good showing at the meet with several placing in the top 8. There are a few records that are in danger of being broke over the next couple of meets.
The Warriors will travel up the east coast to the Vince Brown Invitational held at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA.
