2012 Softball Season Outlook

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Softball season is officially on its way as they had their first official practice on Thursday January 12, 2012 which was mainly a tutorial and learning practice for the players to get acquainted with the coaching styles of the first year Head Softball Coach, Amy Krazeise.

Lady Warriors' 2011 team rankings for the NAIA were:

• Ranks Number 2 in Division I in Chances per Game (33.200)
• Ranks Number 3 in Division I in Assists per Game (11.133)
• Ranks Number 15 in Division I in Total Assists (501)
• Ranks Number 17 in Division I in Caught Stealing per Game (0.422)
• Ranks Number 17 in Division I in Total Caught Stealing (19)
• Ranks Number 18 in Division I in Total Triples (15)
• Ranks Number 19 in Division I in Triples per Game (0.333)
• Ranks Number 24 in Division I in At Bats per Game (27.978)
• Ranks Number 32 in Division I in Putouts per Game (20.044)
• Ranks Number 35 in Division I in Innings Pitched per Game (6.681)
• Ranks Number 47 in Division I in Errors per Game (2.022)

• Benton Ranks Number 6 in Division I in Total Triples (7)
• Benton Ranks Number 7 in Division I in Triples per Game (0.167)
• Roloff Ranks Number 10 in Division I in Walked Allowed per 9 (1.08)
• Ragans Ranks Number 12 in Division I in Innings Pitched per Game (6.578)
• Clark Ranks Number 12 in Division I in Assists per Game (2.682)
• Benton Ranks Number 16 in Division I in At Bats per Game (3.571)
• Roloff Ranks Number 26 in Division I in Total Walks Allowed (13)
• Clark Ranks Number 26 in Division I in Total Assists (118)
• Roloff Ranks Number 39 in Division I in Losses (14)

The Warriors finished their 2011 season with a 13-33 record and they were 3-12 in The Sun Conference, where they finished 5th in the conference. Some notable key losses from the 2011 season were Staci Cauthen, Clark, Kristin Gaul and Morgan Hughart.

Key returners from the 2011 season are centerfielder Yahtea Benton, third basemen Brittany Spencer, catcher Dallas King, and two great pitchers Dana Roloff & Tiffany Ragans. Yahtea Benton was ranked in four different categories last year in the NAIA which were: Number 3 in Division I in Caught Stealing per Game (0.190), Number 6 in Division I in Total Triples (7), Number 7 in Division I in Triples per Game (0.167), and Number 16 in Division I in At Bats per Game (3.571). Brittany Spencer played in 33 games where her average was 0.396 and her slg% was 0.49, she was 106 times at bat, with 42 hits and 14 runs in the 2011 season. Dallas King comes back with her experience to aid the team at the catcher position. Tiffany Ragans was ranked Number 12 in Division I at NAIA in Innings Pitched per Game (6.578). Dana Roloff was ranked Number 10 in Division I in Walked Allowed per 9 (1.08), ranked Number 26 in Division I in Total Walks Allowed (13), and ranked Number 39 in Division I in Losses (14).

New players to be on the watch for are the new pitchers (Kiana Levy and Ashlee Quigley), Elizabet Rodriguez as a hitter, and short stop Maureen Sandidge.
The practices are strong, and everyone are adapting and learning quickly to everything that the Head Softball Coach, Amy Krazeise, has to coach.

The 2012 Season will open up with a double-header on February 1, 2012 at Nova Southeastern University at 5 pm, and the home opener will be versus Eckerd College on February 22, 2012 at 6 pm at Frostproof, Florida. The Sun Conference matches will start on March 23, 2012 versus St. Thomas University and the regular season will finish off on April 28, 2012 in a conference match versus Northwood University.
