Babson Park, Fla. - The Webber pitching tandem of Kristen Stewart and Kristen LeFan threw back to back no hitters on Saturday and the Lady Warriors completed a three game sweep of the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Webber (29-18, 9-3) got things started on Friday night with a 4-1 victory over the Bees. SCAD sent hurler Kristen Curette to the mound while the Lady Warriors countered with Senior Kristen LeFan. The Bees jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st when Carleigh Shannon led off with a triple and scored on a Kristen Curette sacrifice fly. The Lady Warriors would answer in the bottom half of the first when Kristen LeFan singled and scored on Shauna Ward's misplayed single to center field. LeFan would shut down the Bees over the next 6 innings allowing only one hit while striking out 5. The Warriors would take the lead in the 3rd when Ashley Clark let off with a double, was sacrificed to 3rd by Kristen LeFan and was driven in on a Joy Fuller fly ball to left field. The Warriors added 2 insurance runs off of SCAD reliever Lisa Williams in the 6th when Shauna Ward reached on an error and Krystan Mahowald doubled. Both would eventually score on singles by Erin Holland and Rachael Jackson. At the plate the Lady Warriors were led by Ashley Clark ( 2-4, double, run) and Kristen LeFan (2-4, run, sac). LeFan's final line was 7 innings pitched, 3 hits, 1 run, 5 strikeouts.
In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Warriors sent senior hurler Kristen Stewart to the mound while SCAD countered with Kiara Boccia. The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st when Ashley Clark led off with a home run to left field. In the 3rd the Lady Warriors added another run when Jianna Hernandez reached on an error and scored on a Kristen LeFan's sacrifice, but the insurance run was hardly needed as Stewart shut down the potent SCAD offense in impressive style. Stewart threw 7 stellar innings, facing only two batters over the minimum, allowing no hits, walking 1 and fanning 4. Offensively, the Warriors were led by Ashley Clark (2-3, HR) and Shauna Ward (2-3, double).
In the final game of the series the Warriors sent Kristen LeFan back to the circle in hopes of completing the sweep and LeFan didn't disappoint. For the 3rd consecutive game the Lady Warriors scored in the bottom of the first when Ashley Clark led off with a walk, moved to third on a Kristen LeFan single and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Joy Fuller. The one run was all LeFan would need as she followed up Stewart's no-no with one of her own, walking 2 and striking out 5 enroute to the win. For the SCAD Bees, pitcher Sam White was also impressive as she threw 6 innings of one hit ball herself.
With the sweep, the Lady Warriors put a stronghold on 2nd place in The Sun Conference standings. They play their final regular season series against Northwood University at home on Thursday (5:00) and Friday (12:00/2:00). The Warriors will honor their seniors following game one of Friday's doubleheader.
