Warriors Receive Runner-Up Honors at Conference Championships

BABSON PARK, Fla. - The men's and women's track and field teams participated in The Sun Conference championships this past Sunday and Monday at ERAU Track Complex. 

The men's team received runner-up honors for the second consecutive year after out scoring rival, Warner University by a mere 13.5 points. The lady Warriors finished fourth with a total of 93 points. 

Both the Embry-Riddle men's and women's track and field teams took home the team titles. Warner University's women received runner-up honors after scoring a total of 175.5 points.

“On the men's side it was a total team effort as each Warrior that competed was able to contribute to the team score” stated third year head coach Terrell Griffin.

David Hunter led the charge for the Warriors as he was crowned conference champion in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash after running 10.73 seconds and 21.67 seconds respectively. Hunter along with Steven McGinley, Malcolm Solomon and James Campbell won the 4x100m relay, while setting a new conference record that the Warriors set at last year's championship. The foursome ran 41.48 seconds which is currently the fifth fastest time on the latest NAIA poll.

Senior Joshua Sanker bettered his school record in the javelin after finishing second with a throw of 45.21m. Nicolaas Botha, Levi Fleming and Kevin Lacy also performed well in the javelin throw as the Warriors placed second thru fifth.

Webber International's Terrell Griffin was honored as The Sun Conference Coach of the Year for the men after leading his squad to a second place finish.

On the women's side Juline Brice led the charge as she was named The Sun Conference Track Athlete of the Year after scoring a total of 33.5 points.  Brice competed in the following events; 10,000m run (1st place), 5,000m run (1st place), 1500m run (2nd place) and the 800m run (5th place). Brice, along with Katheana Jean-Baptiste, Samantha Lee, and Sarah McCain comprised the fourth place 4x800m relay team.

Senior Sarah Long performed well for the Warriors as she placed second in the 100m dash, second in the 200m dash and she ran fourth leg on the second place 4x100m relay team. Long also ran lifetime best in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash after running 12.03 seconds and 24.69 seconds respectively.

Senior Anna Wallace also performed well for the lady Warriors as she competed in five events and scored a total of 20 points.   Wallace competed in the long jump (5th place), triple jump (3rd place), 100m dash (7th place), 100m hurdles (3rd place), and ran first leg on the 4x100m relay team that placed second.
