"THE WARRIORS CONQUER THE LANES"
At WIU, we take a holistic approach to developing a player's game. In training, we work on individual skills as well as focus on developing a team approach to bowling. Bowlers who participate in our program will develop their complete game, including the following:
- most efficient and biomechanically sound physical game
- advanced lane play and advanced targeting
- lane play planning (fresh, phases of transition, etc.)
- release variety development
- mental game skills
- bowling ball arsenal development
- playing the team game
- and much more
Each player will have an individual portfolio that will include performance data, goals based on strengths and weaknesses as well as other pertinent information. Players will also meet with the coaching staff biweekly to discuss progress.
Team members will also complete a fitness and strength training program throughout the season designed to improve performance as well as prevent injury. As a varsity sport, WIU has both a fitness coach and athletic trainer. These professionals train the bowlers and help to prevent as well as treat injury.
In addition to the bowling side of our sport, our program works to develop the individual character of the person. Through participation in our team training program, players become better people by learning how to be a member of a successful team and learn how-to collaborate on and off the field.
Moreover, we expect our players to be equally dedicated to their scholastic endeavors. In simple terms, champions are disciplined. And, we want athletes who are also committed to learning in the classroom.
If you want to become an excellent student as well as develop your bowling game to the highest level, WIU is for you. Come to WIU to learn how-to conquer the lanes.
