Babson Park, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors football team took to Legion Field this Saturday with one thing in mind, quiet the naysayers. Questions and comments arose about the loss of key offensive players, and who was to replace them, but the Warriors put a sudden stop to those doubts on this wet Saturday.
Gary Chouloute, led the Warriors to a 29-0 victory over the University God's Chosen in what could have been a blowout of Biblical proportions against the Disciples had weather not ensued halfway through the third quarter.
The Warriors were off to a slow start, shaking off some of the rust from summer. While the Disciples controlled the ball for most of the first quarter, they came up empty with no end zone success. Webber controlled the ball for the rest of the first half as they went into the half leading 21-0. Mario Bargaineer, was the first to strike when he scored on a three-yard run after a powerful offensive drive. Gary Chouloute was next to follow suit as he scored on a one-yard run following a similar drive from the offense, thus making it 14-0. Roodson Pierre, tacked on the final blow of the first half with a four-yard run just a minute before time expired. The Warriors came out hot in the second half but were halted by another force besides a defense, rain and lightning. Not before the defense could force a safety on the Disciples offense, and one more touchdown, a six-yard run from Austin Logue. They called the game in the third quarter as the field was no longer fit to play.
The previous doubts expressed, were in Webber's running game, but it's clear that the Warriors have something to prove, they can run, and they can do it well. Three different running backs showing that they can make up for the losses from last year's team.
The Warriors return to action next Saturday, September 3rd, as they take on the College of Faith. However, there will be a change of venue for the Warriors as they are set to play the home match-up at Frost Proof High School football field located at 307 W. 3RD ST., FROSTPROOF, FLA. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. Come out and support the Warriors! Students free of charge with proof of Student ID.
