Babson Park, Fla. - Webber International University announces the signing of Nick Cortes, a transfer from Pasco Hernando Community College, and Lecanto High School graduate.
Son of Myriam and Eduardo Cortes, Nick was born in Rockland county New York and has five brothers and sisters.
In his one season at Pasco Hernando Community College, Cortes averaged 6 points and 3 assists per game while playing both the point guard and shooting guard positions.
During his prep career Cortes was a valuable member of the Lecanto High School Boys Basketball team. In his Senior season, Cortes averaged 28.4 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4.3 steals, which earned him First Team All-State honors. Cortes was also awarded Player of the Year honors in his county, district, and region during his senior season. He was also selected to play in the North/South All-Star game. In his Junior season he helped led the LHS squad to a 28-1 record (and a #1 ranking) by averaging 21 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals per game which earned him honorable mention for Class 4A in the state of Florida. In that same season his team advanced to the Sweet 16. Cortes scored 40 or more points three times in his high school career.

John Shoffner is excited about adding Nick Cortes to his program. “Nick is an aggressive and hard working player that will be an asset to our program and he is a young man of great character as well,” Shoffner stated. Upon signing at Webber Cortes stated “I am excited to join the Webber family and look forward to contributing to the basketball program.”
