Babson Park, Fla. - Coach Cockburn's 2nd annual summer soccer camp took place last week, from Thursday, June 11th – Monday, June 14th.
The camp proved a success with over 50 players taking part in the fun. The camp had a World Cup theme, with a tournament taking place over the course of the camp. The teams included England, The Netherlands, Brazil and The United States. The Netherlands were the eventual winners of the competition, with England following closely behind.
Coach Cockburn had a bundle of experienced coaches at the camp, alongside 7 of his Warriors. Brazil was led by Coach Cockburn and senior goalkeeper Everton Coates. The Netherlands had the experience of Gerry Queen, a former professional soccer player who is best known for his playing days at Crystal Palace. Queen's assistant was Webber defender DJems Lima. England was coached by Tony Poarch, a professional soccer consultant and former Major League Soccer player, who was assisted by senior right back Craig Peacock. The United States were led by Johnson & Wales head coach Bobby Lennon, who also has an extensive playing history, and was assisted by Estevan Lamas.
While games and skill sessions took place in the day, the players headed over to the Yentes Center during the evening, enabling them to catch up on all the World Cup action.
Coach Cockburn said, “I am very pleased that the camp was a success. All of my boys did me proud and represented our program with a sense of pride. There were many young talents at the camp, some of whom may attend Webber in years to come. I now look forward to the season ahead.”
