Warriors Split Conference Weekend

Babson Park, Fla. – Webber International’s men’s basketball team went 1-1 over the weekend, defeating St. Thomas University Friday (January 15th) night and taking a lose Saturday (January 16th) evening against Ave Maria University.
 
While in Miami, the Warriors took an 89-84 lead over the Bobcats to improve their record to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in The Sun Conference. While the Bobcats dropped to 4-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
 
Going into the half the WIU had the lead over the Bobcats, 45-32. Halston Schaffer led with 12 points, and Junior Geidi followed with 9. During the second half the Bobcats outscored the Warriors by eight, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the first quarter lose.
 
Leading the Warriors overall was Schaffer and Geidi both collecting 24 points, and Tyrell Harper adding 15.
 
After Miami, WIU traveled to Naples, for a 4 p.m. conference game versus Ave Maria. Webber led by one going into the half, (30-29) and Mike Bonilla led the team with 11 points and Luke Marlar with 9.
 
The second quarter was a different story for the Warriors. Ave Maria led with 13 points for an 81-63 win in the Gyrenes favor. Ave Maria improved their record to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in The Sun Conference, whereas the Warriors dropped to 9-6 and 4-1 in the conference.
 
The men will take the road again Tuesday, January 19th, for another Sun Conference match up versus Edward Waters College, in Jacksonville. Scheduled tip-off is at 7 p.m.

Kristen LeFan
Women's Softball
LeFan went 4-1 on the mound this week,striking out 61 players while giving up 13 runs and allowing 18 hits. Her only loss was to the #7 ranked Bethel College. She pitched 32.0 innings on the week, with a total ERA of 2.19.
Philippe Andermatt
Men's Tennis
Andermatt went 2-0 on the week at #2 doubles and singles, winning both doubles matches with partner Juuso Tapaneinen and both singles matches, allowing his opponents no more than four points in each match.
